EkoSkola

Eco-Schools is an international programme for environmental education and management, which aims to raise students’ awareness of sustainable development issues through classroom study as well as school and community action. Our school has set up its first ever EkoSkola Committee which is made up mostly of students from Year 3 to Year 6 classes. After a selection process in these year groups, 13 representatives were chosen. During the first committee meeting, the members discussed what they would like to do as part of their new responsibilities. The students themselves also chose the President and the Secretary, who are Jessica Schembri and Jean Paul Saliba respectively. The committee is being facilitated by Mr Michael Gatt, Assistant Head, and teachers Ms Victoria Grech and Mr Joseph Ferriggi. In the coming weeks, the committee will be meeting on a regular basis and will discuss and come up with ideas on how to improve the school’s environment, embellish certain areas within the school and its surroundings. They will also propose suggestions on action that can be taken on waste management, water and energy consumption, the use of the greenhouse, composting, and environmental awareness amongst others. We wish the EkoSkola committee members and the School’s Green Focus group success in their work.
