Head of School

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school. I am very much aware that this day is usually accompanied by excitement for all the new things our children will be encountering at school.

I am looking forward to start my work as an administrator ofSt Paul’s Bay Primary. I have already started my work here but the real work starts when the school is buzzing with teachers, parents and pupils. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Ms Deguara for her work and I promise to work hard to continue on what has been obtained and continue building on the school’s good reputation.

Of great interest to parents, are the activities we have planned at school. I hope that you will attend for the meetings with the class teacher. These meetings will help you to get to know the class teachers better and to inform yourselves with teaching methods, the teacher adopts. The meetings are planned to take about an hour. During the first 15 minutes I would like to introduce myself and the Assistant Head. Then each teacher will talk to the parents of his/her class. These meetings are not parents’ day but a way of getting to know each other better.

The following are the exact days and times of the meetings:

Tuesday  11th October               – Year 5: 8.30am -9.30am

                                  – Year 6: 10.30am – 11.30am

Wednesday 12th October     – Year 1: 8.30am -9.30am

                                  – Year 2: 10.30am – 11.30am

Thursday 13th October        – Year 3: 8.30am -9.30am

-         Year 4: 10.30am – 11.30am

As you are well aware, each year the school prints an amount of photocopies. To cover this expense, payment for photocopies is €5 and is to be given to the class teacher. This fee covers the service of photocopying which is a huge expense for the school. Therefore we are asking for your kind collaboration. Thank you. Our students will also be given workbooks of various subjects. Each year group has its workbooks and payment for the workbook varies according to the workbooks given.

I would like to mention an issue that brought some controversy. We told our pupils not to bring cakes or sweets for their birthday and I shall explain why:

We have a considerable number of pupils who suffer from allergies, diabetes, lactose intolerance and other conditions. It is very difficult to track what is contained in sweets and cakes but the greatest difficulty is assuming responsibility. Instead of sweets, pupils will still celebrate their birthdays and the birthday boy/girl will be given a small token by the school. We shall keep the birthday spirit without any consequences.

Thanks for your cooperation and hope to meet with you during the parents’ meetings.

Ms Josette Dalmas
